Funeral Services for Jessamine County Resident, Who Was Slain Sunday, Scheduled for 3:30 P.M. LINDSEY WARNER IS JAILED
Nicholasville, Ky., July 13 - Funeral services for Merritt M. Cobb, farmer, 43, who was shot and killed instantly Sunday night about 6:15 o'clock, will be held at the residence near Mt. Lebanon Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The Rev. F. E. Mosely will officiate and burial will be in the Cobb burying ground.
Lindsey Warner, also a farmer of the same neighborhood and life-long acquaintance of Cobb, is charged with the shooting and immediately after the occurrence surrendered to officers.
The two men had driven to the Cobb home from Nicholasville in Warner's car and when they neared the residence an argument came up when Warner drew a .38 calibre pistol, police said, and fired one shot into Cobb's body just above the heart.
Warner told the officers that he shot in self-defense while Mr. Cobb was hurling rocks toward him. Warner is in jail charged with murder and a coroner's inquest will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, conducted by Bert Rhorer.
The two men were related by marriage, Spencer Cobb, son of the victim, having married Warner's daughter, Miss Hazel Warner. Mr. Cobb is survived by his widow, Mrs. Virginia Burdine Cobb; two children, Spencer and Clarence Cobb; his father, F. R. Cobb, and a brother, J. B. Cobb, all of Jessamine county. Pallbearers at the funeral will be Burton Willis, Arthur, Tom and Manford Hager and Leo and Tom Burdine. He was buried on 14 July 1936 in John W Cobb Cemetery, Chrisman Mill Rd., Jessamine Co., KY.
