Besides her husband, she is survived by several children. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Blakeman of Jessamine County. The funeral services were held at the residence and the body was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery. DEAN, MATTIE BLAKEMAN On Wednesday morning, March 16th, at five o'clock, as calmly and peacefully as the dawn of the beautiful morning, the spirit of Mrs. A. S. Dean took it's flight to the Great Beyond. She had suffered for some time with tuberculosis and had been confined to her room for two months. All that kind hands, loving service and medical aid could do was done but of no avail, her life was spent, her time had come and her usefulness to her family and community was ended. Mrs. Mattie Blakeman Dean was born on March 14, 1857, age 70 years and two days. She was married to A. S. Dean of Jessamine County and to this union were born six children, five of whom survive and were all with her for several days before her passing, administering to her wants, as she said "at every beck and call." She is survived by her husband and four sons and one daughter, Mrs. J. D. Brumfield and Mr. Harvey Dean of Little Hickman, Messes Briny, Harrison and Irvin Dean of this place. Besides these, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Sallie Jennings of Lexington and a number of grandchildren to mourn her loss. She united with the Little Hickman Christian church in her youth and after moving to this county about 25 years ago, she put her membership with Pleasant Grove church, where she was always ready to attend when possible. Funeral services were conducted at her home here Friday morning at ten o'clock by her pastor, Rev. Taylor, interment following in Maple Grove cemetery at Nicholasville, under a mound of beautiful floral offerings. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community and may they , through their sorrow, be able to say as Job, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord."
