He was born Jan. 23, 1913 in Jessamine County. He was the son of the late Floyd and Nancy Elizabeth Dean Brooks. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Marie Blakeman Brooks; a son, Rev. Phillip Brooks and his wife, Rev. Gloria Brooks, Cincinnati; a daughter, Joyce Marie Blevins and husband Daryl, Dayton; a brother, Gilbert Brooks and sister, Elizabeth Teater, both of Jessamine county; five grandchildren, Leila Blevins, Lynsey Blevins and Meridith Blevins, all of Dayton, Phillip Roland Brooks and Alison Marie Brooks, both of Cincinnati. He was a graduate of Nicholasville High School, Asbury College (A.B. 1941) and Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1943). During childhood and youth he was an active member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Jessamine county. He pastored United Methodist churches from 1941 until retirement in 1978. The churches include Gunn's Chapel, 1941; Gunn's Chapel in Garrard County, 1942; Whitemore, Hale and Turner in Michigan, 1943; St Clair Shores, Michigan, 1951; Greenfield, Detroit, Mich, 1966; Bethlehem, Flint, Michigan, 1969. He retired to Wilmore in 1978. Following retirement, Brooks was guest preacher in many churches in various denominations. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and bee keeping. Services were Tuesday at the Wilmore United Methodist Church-Clark Chapel with Rev. Charles Bertrand, Dr. Don Morris, and Rev. U. J. Herron officiating.
